This collection features five antique carpenter's hand planes and layout tools, crafted from dark, dense materials. The assortment includes a complex plane marked 'J. Cox' (possibly John Cox, tool maker, England 1770-1843) another with finely turned handles, and a third with a brass adjustment mechanism. Once marked 'W. Vance' (William Vance, plane maker out of Baltimore, MD lived from 1799-1833). Also present are a smaller plane and a unique folding layout tool, possibly a scribe or marking gauge.
Condition
The tools exhibit significant signs of age and use, including numerous scratches, dents, and areas of discoloration consistent with prolonged handling. Some components show minor cracks, and there is visible oxidation on metal parts. The overall patina is rich and dark, reflecting their extensive history. The pen in the images is for scale and is not included.
Available payment options
* After the auction, Please arrive within the two day pickup time by appointment, or request shipping in that time. Shipping cost= Handling + Postage (usually UPS or USPS). Handling fees for in-house shipping is (per lot): $15 for small lots, $40 for art and furniture. We use Shippo.com to get you the most competitive postage rate possible. Shipments are processed the week after the auction sells. For local pick up, Follow the signup link we will email you after the auction to let us know when you'll be arriving. If you do not see the email, check your spam folder first, then email info@fairauctionco.com to have it resent.
* For items which remain un-claimed beyond the pickup window: Standard storage fees are $5 per lot, per day, beginning the next Tuesday following the pickup window.
* We will not assume a buyer requires shipping for any reason. The buyer agrees to request shipping in writing to info@fairauctionco.com, and they risk forfeiting their items if this request is not made within 7 days of the auction close. No refund will be extended as a result of buyer forfeiture.
