This antique steamer trunk features a robust wooden construction, reinforced with dark iron straps and numerous rivets. The trunk is adorned with decorative metal corner guards and has a central locking mechanism with a clasp, alongside two additional side clasps for secure closure. The top and body are further accented with wooden slats, enhancing both its durability and aesthetic. The interior is lined with a patterned fabric, showing signs of age. This piece is equipped with leather handles on the sides, typical of travel trunks from the late 19th or early 20th century, making it a functional and decorative item for storage or display. Its design reflects the craftsmanship and utility required for long-distance travel during its era.

Condition

The steamer trunk exhibits significant wear consistent with its age and use. The wooden surfaces show numerous scratches, scuffs, and areas of discoloration, with some minor splintering observed on the wooden slats. The iron hardware has considerable oxidation, pitting, and surface rust, particularly on the straps, rivets, and corner guards. The central lock and side clasps are present but show heavy wear, and the functionality of the lock is untested. The leather handles are present but appear worn and somewhat brittle. The interior lining is stained, discolored, and shows tears in several places. There are remnants of adhesive and paper on the top surface from a previous lot tag. The overall structure remains sound despite the cosmetic imperfections.
