Very old, likely 18th century (not confirmed) This antique brass candle snuffer features a scissor-like mechanism designed to trim candle wicks, accompanied by a small integrated box to catch the trimmed wick. Similar examples have been found to be made in Germany, exact age unknown. The handles are elegantly turned, and the box is adorned with intricate relief decoration, suggesting a sophisticated design from an earlier era. This functional and decorative piece reflects historical lighting practices.
Condition
The candle snuffer exhibits significant wear consistent with age and use. The brass shows a darkened patina, scratches, and areas of discoloration throughout. There is visible surface oxidation and some grime accumulation in the crevices of the decorative elements. The hinge mechanism appears functional, but the overall finish is distressed, with no signs of recent cleaning or polishing. There are no obvious breaks or repairs.

* For items which remain un-claimed beyond the pickup window: Standard storage fees are $5 per lot, per day, beginning the next Tuesday following the pickup window.
* We will not assume a buyer requires shipping for any reason. The buyer agrees to request shipping in writing to info@fairauctionco.com, and they risk forfeiting their items if this request is not made within 7 days of the auction close. No refund will be extended as a result of buyer forfeiture.
